Oman has introduced a new ministerial decision<\/strong> (13\/2025)<\/a>regulating part time work in Oman<\/strong>, which came into effect on January 19, 2025<\/strong>. This decision aims to provide more flexible employment opportunities for Omani citizens, particularly students<\/strong>, job seekers<\/strong>, and retirees<\/strong>. The move is aligned with the country\u2019s broader efforts to diversify the labor market and enhance workforce participation.<\/p>\n

Under the new regulations, part-time work is defined as employment that involves fewer hours<\/strong> than full-time roles. Employees must work a minimum of 4 hours per day<\/strong> but cannot exceed 25 hours per week<\/strong>. The hourly wage<\/strong> for part-time workers is set at 3 Omani Rials<\/strong>, though lower wages can be agreed upon with the Ministry of Labour’s approval, the payment of wages shall be as specified in article 90 of labour law..<\/p>\n

The decision restricts part-time jobs to Omani nationals<\/strong> and allows students to engage in part-time work without jeopardizing their financial allowances from educational institutions. Importantly, students are not required to seek approval from their schools or universities, providing them with greater flexibility to gain work experience while studying.<\/p>\n
