In line with the Royal Decree No. 6 / 2003 on Natural Reserves and Wildlife Preservation, and the Royal Decree No. 106/2020 establishing the Environment Authority, a new administrative decision has been issued regarding regulating domesticated wild animals. This regulation, detailed in Administrative Decision No. 150 / 2024, introduces comprehensive measures for managing and overseeing domesticated wild animals. It mandates that the Environment Authority must license any such possession or transfer.
License Requirements
To acquire or transfer domesticated wild animals, individuals or entities must:
- Be Omani nationals.
- Have an appropriate facility for the animals.
- Agree to comply with all regulatory requirements.
- Pay necessary fees.
License applications must be submitted using the prescribed form, including all required documents. The Authority has 30 working days to approve or reject applications. Rejected applicants may appeal the decision within 60 days.
Licenses for possessing domesticated wild animals are valid for two years and can be renewed under similar conditions. Renewal applications must be submitted 60 days before the license expires.
Fees
- Initial License: 200 Omani riyals per animal.
- Renewal Fee: 10 Omani riyals for two years.
- Transfer License: 2 Omani riyals.
Licensees must bear transportation costs. Obtain Authority approval for the disposal of animals. Install microchips or numbered earrings on animals from the first and second generations. Report deaths and births of domesticated wild animals. Allow periodic inspections by Authority specialists.
Violations of the regulation can result in various administrative sanctions, including fines, suspension, or cancellation of the license. Specific fines are outlined for offences such as unlicensed possession, improper disposal, and failure to report deaths.
Administrative Fines
The regulation includes a detailed schedule of fines for different violations, ranging from 50 to 1,000 Omani riyals, depending on the nature and severity of the infraction
